Bhrikuti ("The Frowner'') is it goddess of compassion also known as the yellow -Tara. Considered a bodhisactva, she belong, to the cosmic Buddha family presided over by the Buddha Antitablia. She has several formic, m ost cctmnion ofwhich is this tour-armed version. Here she is attractively dressed in it short: blouse, patterned skirt and billowing sc•art, and is crowned, garlanded, and ornamented. She displays three accributcs: a rosary. a tripartite enthlent(traidanda). and a small water vessel. Site extends the li.urch hand in a gesture of homage.
Legend affirms that Bhrikuti was the nantc of the Nepalese bride of the seventh-cc,itury -Tibetan king, Srong-tsen-gam-po Along with a Chinese bride she is often credited with introducing Buddhism to Tiber. In their dowries both brides apparently did bring precious Buddhist images. mime of which are believed to be still enshrined in Lhasa.
